Quanto vale? / What's the worth?

Outro dia, estava no cinema com uma amiga e enquanto o filme não começava, e assistíamos ao trailer de outro filme, em um certo momento, uma conhecida cantora apareceu em um anúncio comercial protestando contra a pirataria. Os argumentos, não preciso comentar, todos já sabem.

Mas qual não foi minha surpresa, quando ouvi um senhor (isso mesmo, um homem de meia idade com os cabelos grisalhos!) dizer: "É só abaixar o preço, que nós não compramos mais CDs e DVDs piratas."

Eu não acreditei. Um absurdo! Se é essa a justificativa para comprar artigos advindos de pirataria, é a pior que eu já escutei. Então quando a tecnologia ainda não estava tão avançada, e comprávamos os famosos "bolachões" (LPs), que não tínhamos como copiar da mesma forma que hoje, por que então comprávamos os LPs?

Não creio que preço seja uma justificativa plausível para tentar explicar um comportamento desonesto e desaconselhável.
Se assim fosse, não teríamos comprados por tantos anos (antes do advento do CD), discos de tantos cantores.
Creio, que exista sim, uma tênue linha na moralidade humana, mais de acordo com a máxima infame de Maquiavel "O fim justifica os meios".

The other day, I was at the movie theatre with a friend and while the movie didn't start and we were watching the trailers, at a certain moment, a known singer appeared in a commercial protesting against piracy. The arguments, I need not comment, are known by everyone.


But I was really surprised, when I heard a middle-aged man (yes, a middle-aged man with grey hair!) say: "It is just about putting down the price, we will stop buying pirate CDs and DVDs."

I did not believe it. Absurd! If that is the justification for purchasing articles from piracy-related activities, it is the worst I have ever heard. So, when technology was not so advanced, and we used to buy the famous LPs, which we couldn't copy as we can now, why did we buy LPs?


I don't think price is a plausible justification for trying to explain a dishonest and unadvisable behaviour.

If that was the way, we wouldn't have bought for so many years (before the CD) records from some many singers.

I do believe, that there is, a fine line in human morality, more in accordance with Machiavel's infamous maxim "The end justifies the means".
